Income Tax Department simplifies linking PAN with Aadhaar The Income Tax Department has made it easy for taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhaar. Responding to grievances of taxpayers regarding difficulties in linking PAN with Aadhaar their names did not match in both systems (Eg. Names with initials in one and expanded initials in another). the Department has come out with a simple solution now.
 
 

 

The government also said that multiple PANs have been allotted to one person and one PAN allotted to multiple persons. This is why it is very important for everyone to check the status of their PAN cards and also link it with the biometrics-based identity number Aadhaar before the deadline set by the government.
 
One needs to visit the Income Tax e-filing website in order to check whether their PAN cards are still valid. Here are the steps to check the validity of your PAN card:
 

1.  Log on to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in; spot and click on ‘ Verify Your PAN ’ option which is available on the home page in the left-hand column called ‘Quick Links’.

 
2.  You will be directed to the next page where you need to fill up details such as 
 PAN  
Full Name  
Date of Birth 
Mobile Number  
 
3. On the next page, you will be asked to enter OTP or one-time password received on your registered mobile number. Enter OTP and hit ‘Validate’.
 
4. In case you have more than one PAN card registered with the details provided, a pop-up message will appear saying “There are multiple records for this query. Provide additional information.” Enter some more details such as your father’s name.
 
5. On the final page, if the PAN number is not duplicated, it will be indicated as ‘Active’ under the ‘Remarks’ column.

Steps to Verify PAN details

Step-1

Logon to ‘e-Filing’ Portal https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/

Step-2

Click on ‘Verify Your PAN details‘ hyperlink from the ‘Quick Links‘ Section.

Step-3

Enter the PAN, Full Name (As per PAN), Date of Birth and Choose the ‘Status‘ as applicable.

Step-4

Enter the Captcha as in the image and click on ‘Submit‘ to verify your PAN details.

Process to Link your PAN Card with Aadhaar UID at Official Website

 
  1. Taxpayers can go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
  2. Click on the link on the  left pane-> Link Aadhaar
  3. Provide PAN, Aadhaar no. and ENTER NAME EXACTLY AS GIVEN IN AADHAAR CARD (avoid spelling mistakes) and submit.
  4. After verification from UIDAI, the linking will be confirmed.
  5. In case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name provided by taxpayer when compared to the actual data in Aadhaar, One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) will be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar.
  6. Taxpayers should ensure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly same.
  7. In a rare case where Aadhaar name is completely different from name in PAN, then the linking will fail and taxpayer will be prompted to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database.
  8. This facility is also available after login on the e-filing website under Profile settings and choose Aadhaar linking. 
  9. The details as per PAN will be pre-populated. Enter Aadhaar no. and ENTER NAME EXACTLY AS GIVEN IN AADHAAR CARD (avoid spelling  mistakes) and submit.
